Woman injected butts with caulking gun, industrial silicon

Marilyn Ely Reid performed illegal buttock enhancements.

Marilyn Eli Reid promised eight women that she could give them shapely buttocks rivalling those of Hollywood stars Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian.

Marilyn Eli Reid promised eight women that she could give them shapely buttocks rivalling those of Hollywood stars Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian.

It was a lie that nearly cost two women their lives, court heard Monday.

Reid pleaded guilty in Superior Court to eight counts of aggravated assault against the victims — whose identities are shielded by a publication ban.

Crown attorney Allison MacPherson detailed the dangerous practice that Reid executed in Toronto in 2011 and 2012. The charade inflicted excruciating pain and jeopardized the health of all victims, she said.

Reid performed injections using unwrapped syringes and caulking guns filled with industrial silicon or lubricant while inside a hotel room or at the victims’ homes, said MacPherson, who read an agreed statement of facts. Reid charged thousands of dollars for her services.

When one worried woman asked about possible side effects, Reid assured her nothing bad could happen.

“No, just a nice plump butt,” Reid replied.

Those promises were as false as Reid’s claims of being a plastic surgeon, a doctor or a nurse. Reid isn’t licensed as a doctor or nurse in Ontario, court heard.

MacPherson said Reid advertised on a website, which offered “buttock, lip and muscle augmentations” to improve appearances.

One victim — whose sister recommended Reid after she had two butt injections in 2011 — had the procedure in August 2012.

The next day, she could barely walk. She was rushed to Toronto Western Hospital.

The victim could have died from the complications if she hadn’t sought immediate medical care, said MacPherson.

The victim, who was off work for months, was left disfigured by the procedure and the subsequent surgeries needed to save her.

Reid applied crazy glue to a Band-Aid slapped over one victim’s incision to stop the leaking, court heard.

Defence lawyer Calvin Barry is seeking a sentence of time served — 20 months — for his client, who had no prior record.

“It’s a bizarre factual scenario. We’ll have to make new law in sentencing her,” said Barry.

“My client is remorseful. I have seen her crying while dealing with this in jail for almost 20 months.”

MacPherson is asking for at least eight years in prison.

The sentencing hearing resumes on Feb. 27.
